15 Thoughtful Thank You Gift for Nurses

Nurses do everything from care for our injuries to providing morale support. Show your appreciation with any of these 15 thoughtful thank you gifts for nurses.

Nurses often see people at their worst. Even if someone goes in for a well-check, they usually want to be almost anywhere else than in that office. That’s why thinking about getting gifts for nurses may seem like a foreign concept.

Have you heard the phrase, “It’s better to give than to receive?” Studies have shown it’s actually true! Gratitude can take many forms. Saying thank you, giving a gift, sending a card is among them.

We will give you some great ideas for ways to express your gratitude.

Whether the nurse is one you see regularly because of a chronic illness, or you simply want to say thank you to the nurse you are scheduled to meet next week, one thing is for certain: your kindness will be remembered long after you leave.

Gifts for Nurses – Start Here
A rule to remember as we make our way through the list of suggestions is you want to think of gifts you would actually like to be given. Let your own tastes and preferences be a guide – give what you want to get.

Let’s jump in with a few ideas that range on the lower end price-wise and are also quick and easy to find.

Put your feet up:

Candles – In some homes, you can find these in almost every room of the house. That makes candles a solid choice as a gift, it is likely to find a home with someone who will use and appreciate it.

Bath Salts – Some salts are more coarse than others, some are scented, but all of them are designed to soothe and/or restore the user as they soak in the tub. A great gift idea for someone who is on their feet all day.

Stationery – Options range from the kind you can often find in the discount section at most retail chains to personalized, higher quality options.

Monogrammed Mug – You can choose to make this funny, sarcastic, or sentimental. Every-time your nurse re-fuels for the day with a cup of coffee, they will be reminded of this gift.

Share with Friends:

Bagels or Donuts – Walking into an office you’ve never been to before?

Maybe you’ve been there several times and you know what everyone’s favorite is? Bringing in a box of something to share is a great way to make friends at the nurse’s station.

Fruit or Cookie Basket – Another favorite for the whole office, this gives the nurses something to snack on quick. One option may be a little more favored than the other for the truly health conscious, but nurses like cookies too!

Bring them Lunch – This is a gift for nurses that may be a little more difficult to pull off. But you can bring in a sandwich tray or pizza – things like this show your gratitude for all the nurses do for you and others on a daily basis.

Seasonal Gifts for Nurses

You can be super creative with this approach. Especially if this nurse is (or has been) providing long-term care for you or someone you love, you can learn things about them and tailor your choice to fit them specifically.

Summer:
Flip-flops (sandals) – Buy a second pair of ones you love and give them as a gift.

Lotions – Especially if you’ve noticed they like a particular brand or scent, find it and bring them a bottle the next time you see them. Summer is notorious for drying out your hands and this type of gift shows some kind forethought.

Winter:
Warm socks – Consider these the anti-flip-flop-option. Who doesn’t like to get home after a long day and get comfortably warm on a cold night?

Bag of coffee or tea – Whatever their drink of choice is, bring them something they can take home and brew up the next chance they get.

Pretty sure you get the idea, there is something you can find for every season that will brighten the day of any nurse. I’m sure some Spring flowers would look great sitting next to the nurse’s station or break room.

Go Big

So far we’ve stuck with some things you can find fairly inexpensively. That’s not to suggest that gifts for nurses should fit within a certain budget, but the idea was to give you some lower cost alternatives.

Let’s ramp it up a bit and look at some higher end options:

Gift cards – You may think this is an odd thing to insert here. Of course, there are some gift cards that cost only a few bucks – and those are fine too. But there are also cards to the nurse’s favorite restaurant, store in the mall, online shopping venue, that can be as large as you’d like.

Day Planner – Most nurses in hospital settings work 10-12hr shifts. They have to plan their life outside of the hospital meticulously to get done everything they need to when they leave. Find a quality planner and show them your appreciation.

Monogrammed Bag – There are some high-end totes out there. Or even a quality backpack would work great. You could have it monogrammed with their name and it becomes something they can use for years.

Show Nurses Gratitude

In the end, it’s not really about how much you spent on the meal. Or where the exotic bath salts came from. In the end, those great gifts for nurses are about saying thank you.

Put some effort into getting to know your nurses. Ask them about their families, their interests, etc. Doing so will help inform your gift giving, but more importantly, it will show them you care about them as a person.

The recently deceased Barbara Bush is credited with saying: “Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your family, friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way.”

A candle or a gift card may seem like an insignificant gesture when taken at face value. But the inspiration behind that gesture is one of gratitude. Gratitude for a job well done – frequently under the most difficult of conditions.
